Analysing Music Videos

Sum 41- The Hell Song

A Rock music video featuring a series of dolls impersonating the four main band members including a range of other dolls to give the impression of a concert scene.
The video pays large attention to detail which improves the quality of the video, the expressions on dolls faces makes the video stand out more. The representation of gender in this video could be clearly seen through nudity in women which has been censored and rude gestures created by males. The video has been cleverly filmed giving a Cinema Verite effect, multiple close up shots of the dolls and action being filmed.

Tegan and Sarah- Call It Off

This video is minimalistic, set in one location a white room, with the two females also wearing white and the only colour being the telephone wires being wrapped around her body. This video works so well with little effort as the camera work is very clever. The way which the camera follows the female singer round the room makes you feel like you are there. This entices you into watching the video. The camera is cleverly zoomed in on certain aspects of the video making some parts stand out over others. These ideas all work together and has clearly been made on a budget.

R.E.M- Imitation Of Life

This video appears very simple, the video lasting a few minutes follows in a forwards/backwards direction. Set in one main location, therefore only aspects to be taken into account would have been crowd in that specific location and ensuring the camera focuses on certain places at a specific time to ensure perfect timing. The camera simply follows from one group of people to another switching forwards and backwards showing scences from an elaborate pool party. Considering this video was also made on a budget we can see they have cleverly integrated lyrics into the video by using an led screen, this gives off a nice finish to the video.
